The web truly is a rabbit hole – the path to amazing music often takes many great twists and turns – and that’s no more evident than on the record above.  After hearing the lead track to Roy Brook’s “The Free Slave” on the Transmit Box Flat podcast, I simply HAD to hear the track again and have it.

It’s an incredibly funky slice of post-bop/soul-jazz a la Herbie’s “Driftin‘” and the pocket that Roy lays down is sublime along with some crazy solos, as well as the sounds of the crowd losing their shit over it.  Most of the folks on here I’d NEVER heard of and I’m excited to dig into their respective catalogues to see where they go.

Of course, as with most rare music, it hadn’t made it onto iTunes/Spotify – but Google sorted me out with a link to the files.  Get some.
